Seed ripensmid-August

The foliage on this thalictrum is rather different than on most others we grow - instead of frilly, columbine-like leaves, it has narrower, glossy, compound leaves. Its flowers resemble those of Thalictrum flavum, its strongly upright habit that of Thalictrum rochebruneanum. Its flowers, which appear in late June in our garden, are reputed to be fragrant, smelling of roses, but I haven't noticed yet. All in all, a nice addition to the garden.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
