Seed ripensmid-October

One of my truly treasured plants (perhaps because it was one of my earlier seed successes), this meadow rue is like a petite version of T. rochebruneanum - the same lavender flowers with bright yellow anthers, but much shorter, and much finer foliage. The only negative is that it is much less sturdy than its larger cousin, and prone to toppling over. If only staking were part of my gardening repertoire, that problem would be a mere trifle :-)

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away...

Seed-starting details for this plant

  1. Seed from '00 JLH order. Baggy treated with 1000 ppm GA-3 overnight, then 70F (40%G, starting 15d)
  2. Seed from '03 garden. Baggy 70F (no G; probably duds)
  3. Seed from '04 garden. Baggy 65F (35%G, 8-14d)
  4. Seed from '08 trade. Baggy 70F (96%G, 7-16d)

Evaluating if you have real seed is easier if you peel off the leathery husk. If viable, you'll find a shiny oblong seed inside. If not, there will be no seed, or a shriveled one.
