Psilostrophe cooperi

Common name yellow paper daisy
Family asteraceae
Life cycle perennial (Z8-10)
Flowers yellow
Size 8-20"
Light sun
Cultural notes drought-tolerant

Deciduous subshrub native to the southwestern US, whose many branches each hold small yellow ray flowers in its spring and fall blooming seasons. A well-developed plant can form a neat mound of yellow. After blooming, the flower petals turn papery and can be held for a long time. I grew plants from seed labeled as this species, but found as the seedlings developed that the seed must have been mislabeled: I'm considering the plants Baileya multiradiata for now, which also has a common name of 'paper daisy'. So I'm just maintaining this page in case I grow the real thing some time.

In our garden, this plant grows in the following area: left fence nursery area
