Phyllanthus tenellus

Phyllanthus tenellus
leaf-flower; long-stalked phyllanthus

Common name leaf-flower; long-stalked phyllanthus
Family euphorbiaceae
Life cycle annual or tropical perennial
Flowers white
Size 24-36"

A weed of nursery operations, this probably arrived in our garden as a hitchhiker on a potted plant. It is cute enough, with delicate round leaves alternatingly arranged on bendy stems. The common name derives from the position of the flowers and subsequent fruits, on pedicels that emerge from just above the leaf attachments so that they lay on top of the leaves. It reportedly shoots its seeds from the fruits after they ripen.
