Foxglove species looking good in and out of bloom. The elongated leaves are an even glossy mid-green - a tidy rosette before the spike goes up, and neatly arranged around the purple-tinged stems thereafter. The flowers are creamy-white with purplish-brown netting, with a long broad lip. Stems and flowers are woolly-hairy, as suggested by the species name. Deer-resistant.

Visitors to this page have left the following commentsJackie D | Jul 13, 2011 | In Minnesota the grecian foxglove is considered poisonous to animals and humans. The washing county printed it in their paper. And you plant it? A great many favorite garden plants are poisonous to humans and/or animals. That does not make them bad plants – just plants to be careful about siting. |
Katy | Jan 14, 2012 | Grecian foxglove is invasive in Minnesota and the MN Dept of Agriculture recognizes it as such. It should be eradicated. Plant natives! |
Jeanette | Jan 24, 2012 | I saw this plant promoted in 'Fine Gardening' magazine. Intrigued by its beauty, I looked it up and saw the articles about its invasiveness in Mn. Ugh!
Does anyone know if D. ferruginea var. gigantea, or D.parviflora (which both have the same look about them) are as invasive and troublesome? |
