At first, I thought it was a round flat weed. But when it appeared over four years ago, my husband would not let me yank it from the walkway. OMG. It was his 'pet weed' and we made fun of it every year - until this year, when it grew into a huge tall stalk with nubs along the column. We waited to see what would become of this thing. We kept guessing. Could it be brussel sprout, or some tall wayside? Then at the end of June it began opening with beautiful orange-rust blooms! It's now July 4th. Gorgeous! But what is it, still? Weed? Perennial? Thankfully, with some perseverance we found it on the web. Our 'pet weed' is exactly your Foxglove Digitalis Ferruginea. Now we'll try and get seeds to keep it going. I'm soooooo glad I let my husband keep it and didn't ever pull it up. Love it! Great story - thanks for sharing. |
