Succulent perennial in the ice plant clan from South Africa. Forms dense tufts of narrow leaves, covered in summer by yellow daisies. Not quite hardy in Pennsylvania, where I first grew it, so I took a chance with this. That's why I took pictures in its first year, so I could share photos of the ultra-cute seedlings at their first-true-leaf stage, and of the developing plants by early July. Luckily, their first winter was an exceptionally mild one, so that one or more of the plants survived – no longer looking so cute, in their freeze-burned, frost-heaved state. I saw some flowers that year, but neglected to take a picture.
After moving to Houston, I tried them again, and got just a single surviving seedling – but that one has been nicely hardy, even through the harder freezes that have blasted this part of Texas in recent years. It finally produced its first flower in late March of its second year, but even when not in bloom I like the texture of the plant just fine.
