Penstemon euglaucus

Penstemon euglaucus
Penstemon euglaucus
Penstemon euglaucus

Family plantaginaceae
Life cycle perennial (Z5-8)
Flowers violet-blue (late spring)
Size 18"
Light sun
Cultural notes well-drained soil

Forms a low mat of blue-green leaves. Deep blue tubular flowers appear on stems above. Occurs naturally in the Cascades of the Pacific Northwest. I've had limited success overwintering them in our garden areas, but I set a couple of survivors into hypertufa troughs, where they are doing just fine, for now.

Late-April foliage on second-year plant

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.

Seed for this plant is included on my seed trade list
