We grow the common version with grey-green leaves (I think our original cultivars were named 'Bluebeard' and 'Longwood Blue'), and also 'Worcestor Gold', which has golden-toned leaves. The latter effect is most noticeable in spring; the leaves fade to a more ordinary green by mid-summer (see photo). The wood is weak and gets brittle - we prune out old wood once a year to keep rejuvenating the plants. Good for mid-late season blue flowers.

I have the Dark Knight , and later I was given First Choice . Can't wait to see it next year when it is had the full season to grow. Great plant . |

One question about the bluebeard ... when is the best time to plant? I'd say spring - but anytime outside of winter and the hottest of summer should be OK. It also depends on your climate, of course. |
| Dale from Cincinnati | May 24, 2008 | Nice site - by the way there is a dead body in that water pool behind the spirea - much nicer than a gnome IMHO |
