Seed ripensearly July

One of my favorite rock garden plants. Its foliage is evergreen, so even after the flowers are done, the blue-green foliage on reddish stems stays attractive. And those flowers, arriving in the second half of May, are especially nice close-up, where you can see the pink veins on light background - from further away, they just look like a pale pink (to my colorblind eyes, anyway). The plants last for a few years, sometimes even do a bit of reseeding – but sooner or later they disappear. So through the years, we've grown several batches from seed trades and society exchanges to replenish our stock; there are some differences in appearance between the various generations, so it's quite possible that not all of them were this species. But all of them were welcome in our garden.

Seedlings are slow-growing, but already show the tidy blue-green foliage.

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away...
