Introduction

Responsabilits essentielles

Ajouter des sites

At the most basic, and arguably most important, level an editor should add
sites to the appropriate category. This includes both adding sites from unreviewed
and those that you find yourself, through other means. Mastering the skills
of selecting, titling, and describing sites is of fundamental importance.
After you are able to do this confidently, you will find that getting approved
for new categories, and otherwise advancing through the ranks, will become
    a far less painful process.

Maintaining Categories

Categories become less useful if the sites contained within
are inaccessible, closed, or simply inappropriate. Periodically checking the
listings, verifying the sites' existence and appropriateness is an important
task. Furthermore, ensuring that the listings in your category adhere to the
guidelines will not only ease your acceptance into further categories, but
also make the category a better resource for the user.

Sharing Knowledge

It is assumed that you joined the ODP because of an interest,
if not an obsession, with your category's subject matter. Therefore, you are
seen as an 'expert' on your chosen area, and your opinion is very valuable.
So, if you're asked to comment in a fora thread about your topic, please contribute.
Even if you don't think you have anything to say, you can still ensure that
the proposed structure sounds logical from your viewpoint, that the correct
terminology is being used, and that decisions are not being based on ignorance
    of the topic in question.

Advanced Responsibilities

Mentoring New Editors

Some editors enjoy helping others learn the ODP, and answer
any questions that they may have. This is immensely helpful to higher-level
editors as it reduces their workload somewhat. Mentoring can take the form
of sending welcome letters to new editors in your topic area, and providing
encouragement. It could be simply answering new editor's questions in the
    New Editors forum.

Correcting Spelling Errors and Non-guideline-compliant
    Descriptions

Depending on the extent of your permissions, you may wish to
partake in janitorial duties. These can include searching for spelling errors,
with the help of Test/ODP/Spelling , cleaning up neglected categories, identifying
and fixing redirecting URLs, and removing subjective language from descriptions.

Leading Fora Discussions

Some editors have a firm understanding of taxonomic principles,
and as such their input in discussions can prove invaluable. This also helps
highlight your leadership potential, a factor considered when selecting candidates
    worthy of promotion.

Making Editor Tools

Technically-inclined editors can help the community greatly
by designing and producing tools that aid the editing progress. Such contributions
are valued enormously, especially by the computer illiterate amongst us.

In short, there is no limit as to how you spend your time at
the ODP; find, or create, a niche, and then fill it!
