  <h3><b><a name="intro"></a></b>Was sind Bookmarks?</h3>
    .</p>
  <h3><b><a name="cannot"></a></b>Was darf ich nicht damit tun?</h3>
  <blockquote>
    <p>	<b><a name="favesites"></a>Speichern deiner beliebtesten Seiten</b></p>
<p>You may wish to use the <a href="/ddp/06005/">Add
a Page of Links to Unreviewed</a> feature to do this.</p>
    <p>	<b><a name="threads"></a>Saving links to forum threads</b></p>
<p>	When browsing the editor forum, you may find a discussion thread that
you'd like to refer to at a later date. To aid this process you can add
the URL of the thread to your bookmark category, just as you would with
a site. Note: even though the bookmark category is public, the forum threads
remain password protected, so you don't have to worry about providing access
to the forum to non-editors. See also: <a href="/ddp/05001/">How
      To: Add a Non-submited Site</a></p>
    <p>	<b><a name="practice"></a>Familiarising yourself with the editing interface</b></p>
<p>	As the contents of your bookmarks are not part of the main directory,
you can use them to experiment with the various tools available to you as
an editor. So, for example, you can practice creating sub-categories, using
Sort Priority, moving sites, writing category descriptions, etc.</p>
    <p>	<b><a name="newcat"></a>Building new categories</b></p>
<p>	Suppose that you have an idea for a category that does not yet exist.
It may be an obscure celebrity, your locality, the university you study
in, the programming language you use, or something totally different. You
can build the category in your bookmarks, add all the sites that you can
find, subdivide it if necessary, then request for it to be moved into the
      main directory. See also <a href="/ddp/01005/">Categories: Creating</a>.</p>
    <p>	<b><a name="mock-up"></a>Creating mock-ups of proposed reorganisations</b></p>
<p>	If you'd like to propose an alternative structure for a category, you
are advised to use your bookmarks to illustrate your plans. A full tutorial
about reorganising categories, along with advice on creating a mock-up,
      is available in <a href="/ddp/01006/">Categories: Reorganising</a></p>
    <p>	<b><a name="dump"></a>"Dumping ground" for sites you've found
but not yet added to the main directory</b></p>
<p>When you find sites that you'd like to add to the ODP you can add them
to your bookmarks, in bulk if you wish via the <a href="/ddp/06005/">Multilink
Adder</a>, without worrying about their titles and descriptions. Then later,
when you have more time perhaps, you can supply the sites with appropriate
titles and description, and then move them to the correct category. Not
only will this get you 'credit' for the edit (by incrementing your edit
total) but also it will give you practice in editing. Note: when you move
a site to a category that you don't have editing access in, it will automatically
be put in that category's unreviewed queue. </p>
<p>	<b><a name="unreviewed"></a>Ascertain the amount of unreviewed sites
      in a category that you don't edit</b></p>
<p>As you may have noticed, the number of sites awaiting review in the categories
listed on your dashboard, are indicated by a green number appearing next
      to the category name. e.g. <img src="/ddp/i/158.gif" width="125" height="20"> When
you are considering applying for an additional category, you may like to
see how many unreviewed sites it currently contains. To do this, create
an @link in your bookmarks pointing towards the category in question. Then,
on the edit-side view of your bookmarks, where the @link is situated, a
bracketed number will appear. The first number, in black text, is the amount
of sites currently listed in the category, and if it contains unreviewed
sites, the number will be provided in a green font.</p>
  </blockquote>
<h3><b><a name="differ"></a></b>How does editing in Bookmarks/ differ from editing
    in the main directory?</h3>
<p>All editors have tools in their bookmarks that were exclusive before to editalls:</p>
  <ul>
<li>Power Reviewed Edit - edits and moves published sites to other categories
like a chainsaw. Useful for writing consistent descriptions and moving sites
      out of bookmarks. </li>
<li> Change Search String - Although the search string you set is unused because
Bookmarks/ are unsearchable, it is carried over when the category is moved
      to the directory. </li>
  </ul>
<p>Tend to it all by yourself. Robozilla does not pass by sites in your bookmarks,
unless the site is also published in a non-bookmarks category. Sites you leave
unreviewed inside your bookmarks will stay there until you move them.</p>
<p>Editors with catmv ability can move categories within their bookmarks, but
only metas can move categories within, out of, or into yours, even if you
assign a catmv editorto edit your bookmarks subcat. </p>
<p>When editors quit the ODP, their bookmarks are left alone, unassigned. In
exceptional circumstances, metas can edit any bookmark category or grant editors
    privileges in them.</p>
  <h3><b><a name="#start"></a>How do I start using mine?</b></h3>
<p>Go to your <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/editors/">dashboard</a>, and near to
the name of the category(ies) that you edit there will be a link to your bookmarks.
For example, if your editor name was 'juliano' the link would read: Bookmarks:
J: juliano. Then you will be in the edit-side view of your bookmarks, where
you can edit the category as you would with any other. </p>
  <h3><b><a name="#private"></a></b>Are my bookmarks private?</h3>
<p>No. They are accessible to anybody. In addition, they are spidered by many
search engines so don't put anything in them that you don't want to be associated
    with.</p>
  <h3><b><a name="privateget"></a></b>Can I get private bookmarks?</h3>

<p>Yes. The ODP's <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/Test/">Test/</a> category is password
protected, and therefore accessible only to editors. A category has been created
in there called <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/Test/Editors/">Test/Editors</a> where
you can request your own sub-category. To request a category of your own ask
  in the <a href="http://forums.dmoz.org/forum/threaddisplay.cgi?t=Forum24/HTML/000742.html">Private
  Bookmarks in Test: III</a> thread.</p>
  <h3><b><a name="search"></a></b>Can I search my bookmarks/the bookmarks tree?</h3>
<p>Short answer: no; the ODP's internal search engine ignores the <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/Bookmarks/">Bookmarks/</a>
tree. There is a kludge that you can use however, which involves using a third-party
search engine that spiders our data. To do this, go to a search engine such
as <a href="http://www.altavista.com/">Altavista</a> and for the query text
    enter <code>url:dmoz.org/Bookmarks search text</code> where '<code>search
text</code>' is replaced with the terms you want to search for. For example,
the following query searches the entire bookmark tree for 'squirrels': <code>http://www.altavista.com/q?pg=q&q=url%3Admoz.org%2Fbookmarks+squirrels&kl=XX&what=web
    </code></p>
