  <h4> <a name="whatis"></a>What is Greenbusting? </h4>
<p> A type of editor permission granted on a per-category basis. It allows the
'greenbuster' access to the category's Unreviewed queue (and those of sub-categories
thereof) but not usual editor functions such as creation/deletion of sub-categories
and modifying/deleting existing listings. In fact, all the editor is able
to do is move newly submitted sites to other Unreviewed queues and 'greenbust'
    new submissions.
<p>'Greenbusting' a new submission involves the greenbuster adding a title and
    description to a new <img src="/ddp/i/100.gif" width="313" height="226" align="right" vspace="12" hspace="12" border="1">submission
and entering it into the "Greenbust queue". Listings in this queue are visible
from the edit side but not from the public side. They appear in a cluster
below the other sites that are listed in the category and are not included
    in the RDF.
  <p>&nbsp;
<h4><a name="originate"></a>Where does the word 'Greenbuster' originate from?
  </h4>
<p>On the Editor Dashboard and the category edit pages, the number of new submissions
is rendered in green text. As a result, new submissions are also known as
'greens'. The permission was introduced as a way to purge backlogged Unreviewed
queues of submissions -- 'busting' them of 'greens'.
<h4><a name="history"></a>What is the history of the scheme? </h4>
  <p> <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/editors/profile.cgi?editor=merlin1">merlin1</a>
proposed an initiative called 'CatGrowers' (see the forum thread <a href="http://forums.dmoz.org/forum/threaddisplay.cgi?t=Forum1/HTML/003800.html">CatGrowers:
Project for New-ish Editors?</a> ) which involved participants working to
build-up under-developed categories. albovicamp adopted this idea for <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/World/Italiano/">World/Italiano</a>,
refining it by requiring editors to request a category in <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/Test/">Test/</a>
, and add sites there with appropriate titles, descriptions, and tag on the
end of the description indicating where the site belongs in the directory.
Then an administrator of the scheme would move the sites to their appropriate
    categories.
  <p> When <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/editors/profile.cgi?editor=albovicamp">albovicamp</a>
    and another World/Italiano editor, <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/editors/profile.cgi?editor=ettore">ettore</a>,
were refining the scheme, they introduced two separate proposals: "GreenBusters"
and "RedBusters". merlin1 further developed the greenbusters element and <a href="http://forums.dmoz.org/forum/threaddisplay.cgi?t=Forum1/HTML/003804.html">presented
her proposal in the General forum</a>. .
  <h4><a name="why"></a>Why was this permission introduced? </h4>
<p> There was not sufficient manpower to administer the original scheme due
to the high take-up rate. Thus, the Greenbuster permission was introduced
-- eliminating the requirement for administrators.
<h4><a name="advantages"></a>What are the advantages of greenbusting a category
as opposed to editing it with standard permissions? </h4>
<p> If applying for greenbust permissions in a category, an editor can typically
apply for a larger one than they would normally. This is because, due to the
restricted permissions greenbusting entails, less editing experience is required.
  <h4><a name="become"></a>How do I become a greenbuster? </h4>
<p> You apply for a category in the <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/editors/asknewsub.cgi">usual
manner</a> with the principle difference being that you must select the 'Greenbuster'
radio button. You are not required to complete the sample URLs/titles/descriptions.
<p>Meta editors may, at their discretion, upgrade an editor's privileges from
'Greenbuster' to &quot;Full Category Edit Privileges&quot;. However this is
the exception rather than the rule -- if you want greenbuster permissions
in a category you should apply using the method described in the previous
    paragraph.
