  <h3> <a name="abilities"></a>What can a Catmod editor do?</h3>
  <p>They have similar responsibilities to metas and editalls, but restricted
    to a particular top-level node, e.g. <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/Regional/">Regional</a>.
    They can:<br>
  <ul>
    <li>Warn editors, usually regarding abusive editing. The warning is placed
      on the editor's dashboard and request log, and must be read and acknowledged
      before they are allowed to edit.</li>
    <li>Rebuild the forum index, enabling the forum search feature to work more
      effectively.</li>
    <li>Approve an existing editor to edit another category. (newperm)</li>
    <li>Turn off submissions, i.e. remove the '<i>Add URL</i>' option from specific
      categories.</li>
    <li>Turn off new editor applications, i.e. remove the '<i>Become an editor</i>'
      link and remove the '<i>This category needs an editor</i>' sign from specific
      categories.</li>
    <li>Turn off cooling within a given category</li>
    <li>Turn the Future Date Sort feature on or off in a given category.</li>
    <li>Turn the Alphabar Complete List feature on or off in a given category.</li>
    <li>Block submissions from repeatedly abusive hosts or networks</li>
  </ul>
  <h3> <a name="responsibilities"></a>What are the responsibilities of a CatMod?</h3>
  <p> While we are all volunteers here, participating to the level of our interests
    and abilities, catmods are expected to maintain a significant presence in
    the forum and to be taxonomy experts for their node. Catmods should be the
    first point of contact in case of issues regarding the ontology, and they
    should also act like forum moderators. Catmods who cannot maintain these time
    commitments are expected to decline the appointment or step down, as applicable.
  </p>
  <h3 align="left"><a name="guidelines"></a>Do CatMods have any additional guidelines
    to follow?</h3>
  <p align="left">Yes, in addition to the <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/guidelines/">regular
    guidelines</a> there are also <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/catmod.html">Catmod
    ones</a>. </p>
  <h3 align="left"><a name="editall"></a>Why do none of the Catmods have editall?</h3>
  <p align="left"> The two permissions are incompatible in the software at this
    time. The roles are designed to be complementary, not a ladder to be climbed.
  <h3><a name="become"></a>How do I become a Catmod?</h3>
  <p> Potential candidates are proposed in the private meta forum and voted on
    by meta and staff editors. These candidates are chosen primarily (though not
    exclusively) through analysis of their amount and content of edit logs, forum
    interaction, interest in the project as a whole, and new editor help. The
    final decision on all catmod approvals is made by staff. In addition to looking
    for suitable candidates, the metas also consider whether there is a need for
    a catmod in any given area.</p>
  <h3><a name="becomekt"></a>How do I become a KCatmod?</h3>

<p align="left"> Much the same way as you would become a catmod in the Classic
  directory, although significant experience in <a href="http://dmoz.org:8080/Kids_and_Teens/">Kids
  and Teens</a> is obviously mandatory.</p>
  <h3 align="left"><a name="forum"></a>Why do the Catmods have a private forum?</h3>
  <p align="left"> For discussion of potentially sensitive issues such as editor
    approvals and removals and abuse of the directory. Only issues demanding privacy
    are discussed in the private forums, when at all possible they are brought
    to the public forums.</p>
