Tall biennial, native to Greece. It forms a sizeable rosette of woolly-gray-green leaves by the spring of its second year, from which it sends up bold plumes of yellow flowers on branched stems.

mullein

Alas, an early-summer thunderstorm muscled our plant to a horizontal position. Since I planted it in the back of a border, expecting it to be tall and upright, it's rather difficult to admire its branched inflorescence in this state. So it goes in the garden sometimes...

This plant used to grow in our garden, but it slipped away...

Seed for this plant is included on my seed trade list
