Dianthus giganteus

Dianthus giganteus
Dianthus giganteus
This bud struck me as a fine model of a retro space capsule
Family caryophyllaceae
Life cycle perennial
Flowers deep pink (summer)
Size 3'
Light sun-part shade
Cultural notes well-drained soil
From seed germinate at room temperature
detailed seed-starting info below
Seed ripensmid-July

Carnation-like flowers on wiry stems above foliage. Not a shocker, but a charming effect.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.

Seed for this plant is included on my seed trade list
