Grown from seeds received in trade, this was a most welcome surprise - we love the way the dark purple foliage combines with the red-to-deep pink flowers. Not sure of the true cultivar name - I haven't been able to find any references to this strain. After several seasons of collecting seed and starting new ones, I struck out, and was dahlialess for years. Then I traded for new seed, offspring of 'Bishop of Llandaff', which is also known for its dark foliage. Our plants didn't have the proper leaf color, and the flower colors are all over the map, but they are quite nice anyway.

We left this plant behind in our Pennsylvania garden (and wish it well); we don't grow it in Houston.
