Mat-forming rock garden perennial, with oval-leaved foliage and white flowers, which in our garden appear in the middle of May. Typical of Cerastium, the flowers have five notched petals. I grew my plants from a society seed exchange packet, which was supposed to be Arenaria tetraquetra, but that's a completely different plant. I had more luck with the ones I planted in troughs, while the ones I set out in the garden nursery area gave up the ghost quickly (see photo below). I suspect that an abundance of moisture from spring rains did them in.
